Paris hosted an Exposition (World’s Fair) In 1889 to mark the 100-year anniversary of the French Revolution. It is stated that more then 100+ artists submitted plans for a monument to be built. Architect and metals expert Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel was appointed as a head for this work. That's why it is called Eiffel Tower. Assembly started on July 1, 1887. It took 22 months to complete this. There were used 18000 pieces to construct the tower. 150 to 300 workers took part to construct this gigantic piece of art. 2,500,000 rivets used in the construction of the Tower .

More than 250 million people have visited the tower since it was completed in 1889.7 Million people visit this masterpiece every year almost. Since the 1980's, the monument has regularly been renovated, restored and adapted for an ever-growing public. Each lift, in normal service, takes an average of 8 minutes and 50 seconds to do the round trip.
